Wonderful Communications arranged to see Guys & Dolls at The Bridge Theatre and what an epic experience it was.
This incredible immersive production of this classic New York musical has a vibrant set design, outstanding vocal performances, and wonderful chemistry between the cast.
Once inside The Bridge Theatre, the audience is transported back in time to the 1950s to the streets of Manhattan where this musical journey about gamblers, gangsters, nightclub singers, sin, and romantic salvation takes place.
The audience can choose to view this show in their seats around the auditorium but from a distance or have an up close and personal standing experience via the perfectly constructed mobile stage that is ever-changing and ever-moving throughout the show.
The cast brilliantly involves the standing audience members at different parts of the show which is a nice touch.
The vocal performances from start to finish are solid and Martha Wallace (Miss Adelaide) gives a superb portrayal of Adelaide’s Lament along with the witty duet Sue Me, shared with Adelaide’s gambling fiance, Nathan Detroit (Owain Arthur).
But the best number of the evening is performed by the exceptional Nicely-Nicely Johnson (Cedric Neal) who gets the entire theatre out of their seats with a blockbuster rendition of “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat”.
The Guys and Dolls musical ends with a big dance party on the floor.
All the cast take selfies with the audience and welcome audience members to strut their stuff on the dance floor for 5 minutes or so before they all disappear off stage to rapturous applause, it’s a moment of pure magic and musical joy!
