The World Book Day UK evening drinks reception was hosted at the fabulous venue that is the Crowne Plaza London Kensington. Positioned in SW7 on the Cromwell Road, Crowne Plaza Kensington is a stylish London hotel housed behind a wonderfully imposing Victorian stucco façade in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
It was fitting that the evening celebration of World Book Day UK took place at the sophisticated outpost that is certainly becoming a beacon for elegant and suave events in London.
Now in its 17th year, World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators and books and most importantly reading. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, the event is now marked in over 100 countries and supported by some of the world’s biggest names in children’s publishing.
Supporting the UNESCO accredited event, Crowne Plaza Kensington’s library played host to a warm, inspiring and welcoming venue to enjoy a literary escape. Throughout the day, the hotel offered its readers complimentary tea, coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts to enjoy in the comfort of its stylish library, overlooking the hotel’s tranquil townhouse gardens.
In the evening, the drinks reception welcomed an array of organisations big and small and like minded professionals who had a love for books and reading to celebrate the occasion.
This year, Crowne Plaza London Kensington also supported one of World Book Day’s official charities www.readathon.org
The Readathon team, gave an insight into their campaigns which encourage reading in children through sponsored reading challenges, enabling them to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and into their adult life. Through its national school sponsored read, Readathon provides free books for participating schools and seriously ill children in hospitals across the country.
During the evening guests were treated to a selection of fine wines and sumptuous canapes prepared by the hotel’s Executive Chef.
A business card raffle with amazing prizes certainly got pulses racing too.
A super evening was certainly enjoyed by all the guests that attended to help mark World Book Day UK.
